#WhyIRun | Asif for Bal Utsav | TCS World 10K Bengaluru 2016

Briefly introduce yourself (Occupation, Location, Interests, Hobbies, etc) : I am working as Assistant Professor (Mechanical Engineering) with Anjuman-I-Islam’s Kalsekar Technical Campus, New Panvel, Maharashtra, India. Am also a researcher from NITIE, Mumbai pursuing my PhD in Industrial Engineering with specialization in Supply Chain Management. I am a nature loving person and love to travel. interested in long distance running, long distance swimming and long distance cycling. Am fond to travelling to different places and also am a foodie.

Why did you choose to run for Bal Utsav? : I chose Bal Utsav because it is working for the cause of education. I too am in the education field and so want to support Bal Utsav. I feel education has a great importance in life.

Are you an ardent runner and what does running for a cause mean to you? : I have been running for the last two and a half years and have by now participated in around twenty Half Marathon and around ten 10 km runs and a few more miscellaneous runs. Also have done one open sea swim of 6 km and one open sea swim of 5 km. I wish to participate in Ironman Triathlon in the near future. Accordingly I am training for it.

How much donations do you wish to raise for the cause of #EducationMakesAllTheDifference during the 2016 Edition of TCS World 10K Bengaluru? : As much as possible.

What’s driven you to run and raise money? : If my running can educate someone and hence help someone to earn a living then the purpose of life is fulfilled.

What are your biggest challenges as a runner? : With age one should grow but not become old. Age is just a number.

What’s one piece of advice you have for other runners? : Injury free running and being young.

Are there best practices you have found that make your event successful year after year? : Few of the best practices that I feel are as follows: Good sleep, good diet, regularity in practice, weekly rest for a day or two, keeping mind free from external problems, not over-training.

What was the feeling of being involved with Bal Utsav and its activities?
: I felt that I am doing something for the society in terms of imparting education.

Do you think that the cause of #EducationMakesAllTheDifference could make a difference?
: Yes. I feel that education makes all the difference in life in a great way.

What does it mean to be back in 2017 for the cause of #EducationMakesAllTheDifference ? : I would be great to be back in 2017 also for running and for a great cause of education in which bal Utsav is involved.

What would you say to motivate more people to run for a cause?
: I would life to motivate others to run for a cause because it gives you a chance to work for the up-liftment of society in terms of education.

Do you have a defined goal for your timing on race day? : I wish to run the 10 km at TCS World 10 km this year in 1 hr 3 min or so.

How has your family reacted to this challenge?: My family is happy to see me running again since 2014 after a gap of nearly 15 years.

The financial outcome from 2016 will be applied in providing whole school transformation of Government schools, are you optimistic?
: Yes.

What is your running goal for 2016?
: To run a full marathon in 5 hr 30 min.

A runner you admire?: Would not like to name just one but I admire all the runners who either have got a podium finish, or have broken some or the other record or who have run in adverse circumstances and still performed better. All good performers I humbly admire.
